About the National Farmers Union Club Golf Society

The National Farmers Union Club Golf Society brings together members who are farmers or persons engaged in agricultural-related industries, friends and colleagues who share a love of both farming and golf.

Farming and rural life have changed hugely in recent years. So has golf. But some things remain the same: good company and a friendly, competitive spirit, and fellowship among our peers. Our society exists to give members of the wider rural community a chance to step away from the day job, enjoy a round of golf, and spend time with people who understand the pressures and rewards of working on the land. We are proud of our NFU roots, but we are equally focused on growing the society and looking to the future. We have local county-based NFUCGS societies throughout Great Britain who hold their own matches a list of county organisers is available through our Secretary.

Who can join?

Membership is open to:

  • Farmers and Growers
  • Anybody involved with the associated Industries with a genuine connection to farming or the rural community
  • NFU staff and partners

We welcome golfers of all abilities. An official handicap is helpful for competitions, where we have a maximum of 28 for Gentlemen and 36 for Ladies

What does it cost?

There is a modest annual subscription of £15 payable by S/O, together with a per-event cost that covers:

  • Green fees
  • Prizes and Gratuities
  • Food where included (for example, coffee and bacon roll, lunch or evening meal)

Full details of current subscriptions and event pricing are available from the secretary.

Is there a set attire?

We follow the normal dress code of our host clubs: recognised golf clothing on the course and smart casual in the clubhouse.

Jacket and Tie are required for our evening meals at our 3 main events on our calendar, and some of our matches

Many members choose to wear NFUCGS-branded shirts or pullovers, which are available in all sizes through the Secretary

What events are held during the year?

We organise 8 Matches per season against old established Rival Societies, including The Massey Ferguson G.S. Horticultural Society, Farmers Club, NFU Mutual G.S.

These are one-day meetings, usually playing 18 holes, occasionally 27 and teams are chosen by the match organiser, and members put their name on an availability form sent to all our members. These matches are team events, usually 12 to 16 m players on each team at venues throughout the country, chosen on a reciprocal basis each year

Our events are competitive enough to make it interesting, but the emphasis is firmly on enjoyment, good food and good conversation.

Where do you play?

We choose a selection of courses across the county and nearby areas that offer: A good test of golf at a quality golf course, and we get Society Rates which help to keep the cost down.

We also expect a warm welcome to our members and guests from all our venues

Venues are reviewed each year so that members can enjoy a mix of familiar favourites and new challenges.
