frequently asked questions

Who can join the National Farmers Union Club Golf Society?2026-01-18T01:18:13+00:00

Membership is open to farmers and growers, people involved in agricultural or associated industries with a genuine connection to farming or the rural community, and NFU staff and partners.

The society welcomes members from across the wider rural community who share an interest in both farming and golf.

Do I need to be a low-handicap golfer to join?2026-01-18T01:17:02+00:00

No. Golfers of all abilities are welcome.

An official handicap is helpful for competitive matches, with a maximum handicap of 28 for gentlemen and 36 for ladies, but the emphasis is on enjoyment, good company, and friendly competition rather than elite performance.

How many events do you organise each year?2026-01-18T01:17:59+00:00

The society organises around 8 matches per season, playing against long-established rival societies such as Massey Ferguson Golf Society, the Horticultural Society, Farmers Club, and NFU Mutual Golf Society.

Most matches are one-day events, usually over 18 holes, occasionally 27, with teams selected by the match organiser.

Where do you play your golf days?2026-01-18T01:18:37+00:00

Matches are held at a variety of quality golf courses across the country and nearby areas.

Venues are selected to provide a good test of golf, offer society rates to keep costs reasonable, and give members and guests a warm welcome. Courses are reviewed annually to maintain a balance between familiar favourites and new challenges.

Can I bring guests who are not NFU members?2026-01-21T17:12:49+00:00

Yes. Members and guests are welcome at events, provided this aligns with the spirit of the society and the event organiser’s arrangements. Guests are expected to follow the same standards of conduct and dress as members.

Guests may attend events on payment of the annual subscription (£15.00). This provides provisional membership for the year and allows them to play. A standing order will be set up for subsequent years’ subscriptions.

How much does it cost to join and play?2026-01-18T01:19:08+00:00

There is an annual subscription of £15, payable by standing order.

Each event also has a separate cost, which typically covers green fees, prizes and gratuities, and food where included, such as refreshments, lunch, or an evening meal.

Full details of current pricing are available from the Secretary.
